The Influence of the Internet and Tech on Global Press Freedom

Join us on February 15, 2023, at Oxford Internet Institute!

Join the Oxford Internet Institute for a conversation with Free Press Unlimited and Free Press fore Eastern Europe on how the digital age and new technologies impact global freedom of the press. In the age of the Internet, open access to the web is necessary for the protection of information integrity and the safeguarding of democracy. While modern technology enables broader access to the media, new threats like misinformation, digital censorship and online surveillance create hostile environments for journalists and newsgatherers.

The panel will be moderated in-person by Lidewij van Vliet, FPU’s Development Officer, and Mia Speier, OII student and FPU’s UK Ambassador. Panelists will join virtually, and include: Maryia Sadouskaya-Komlach, Director of Free Press for Eastern Europe and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis, Tom Keunen, FPU’s Head of Security, and Flora Shulte Nordholt, FPU’s Policy and Advocacy Officer focused on legal, digital and gender-based threats to journalists.

This event will be in-person and streamed via Zoom, the Zoom link will be sent ahead of the event. Get your ticket here.
